Tintal, a smaller excavation site in Petén faces similar water issues like its neighbor, El Mirador. In the dry season from January till May the area sometimes dries out to such an extent that excavations have to be suspended because there is not enough drinking water for the workers on site. The minimal precipitation that does fall is gathered and used by guards and visitors
